PDP BoT Throws Weight Behind Damagun, Sets Up Reconciliation Committee Ahead of Convention

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagun.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party says it is united, formidable, and focused ahead of its forthcoming National Elective Convention.

This was conveyed in a communiqué issued at the end of its emergency meeting held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. It was signed and presented by the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara.

The BoT declared total support for the NWC, the PDP Governors Forum, the National Convention Organizing Committee, and other critical organs of the party for their “collective roles in stabilizing the PDP,” especially as preparations heighten for the elective convention scheduled to hold on November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The BoT also hailed the ruling of the Oyo State High Court, delivered by Justice A. L. Akintola, which affirmed the constitutional right of the party to conduct its internal affairs, including organizing the 2025 Elective National Convention.

The board described the judgment as “a victory for democracy, rule of law, and political development in Nigeria.”

However, the BoT expressed concern over the recent internal crises within the party, including the invasion of the National Secretariat.

“As the conscience of the party, the BoT cannot and will not take sides but remains focused on safeguarding the integrity of the PDP and ensuring dialogue over discord. The decision for reconciliation is not a sign of weakness, but a demonstration of maturity and responsibility,” the communiqué stated.

To that end, the BoT announced the constitution of a high-powered Reconciliation Committee to immediately intervene and reconcile all aggrieved factions within the party ahead of the convention.

The members of the committee include:

Amb. Hassan Adamu (North East) – Chairman

Chief Mike Oghiadomhe (South South) – Secretary

Chief Ugochukwu Okeke (South East)

Sen. Zaynab Kure (North Central)

Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (South West)

Dr. Lubna Mohammed Gusau (North West)

The committee is expected to submit its report to the BoT on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, for further action.
