Osun 2026: Omisore Declares Guber Ambition, Shakes Up APC Field

0 0

Former Deputy Governor of Osun State and immediate past National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Otunba Iyiola Omisore, has officially joined the 2026 governorship race in Osun State.

His declaration ended weeks of speculation and subtle denials about his political future.

Omisore made the declaration during a phone interview with the Daily Sun newspaper on Monday afternoon, stating plainly: “Yes, I will run.”

The seasoned politician, who also represented Osun East in the Senate, confirmed he has already begun consultations with key APC leaders across the state and in Abuja to intimate them of his ambition.

This latest move increases the number of declared aspirants for the APC governorship ticket to nine, intensifying what is expected to be a hotly contested primary.

In the past two weeks, political activities have noticeably ramped up at Omisore’s campaign office in Osogbo, with renovation work nearing completion; a visible sign that something was brewing beneath the surface.

Sources familiar with his political machinery say the Ife-born politician has been quietly assembling his core team and is expected to formally unveil his campaign structure in the coming weeks.

Before Omisore’s entry, the APC guber hopefuls included:
Mr Bola Oyebamiji – Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA)
Mr Dotun Babayemi
Senator Babajide Omoworare
Senator Mudashiru Hussain
Mr Akin Ogunbiyi
Mr Benedict Alabi
Mr Kunle Adegoke (SAN)

Senator Ajibola Basiru (current National Secretary of the APC)

With Omisore now officially in the race, all eyes are on the APC and how it navigates the delicate balancing act of ambition, zoning, and internal cohesion as Osun moves closer to 2026.
