The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced a two-week nationwide warning strike, set to begin Monday, October 13, 2025.
This order, directed at all branches of the union in Nigeria’s public universities, was delivered by ASUU National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, during a press briefing in Abuja.
The strike follows the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum the union gave the federal government, demanding implementation of outstanding agreements.
According to Piwuna, there has been insufficient progress to justify calling off the action.
The strike will be total and comprehensive, with members expected to withdraw services starting from 12:01 a.m. Monday.
ASUU has warned it may escalate to an indefinite shutdown unless the government takes concrete steps within this two-week window.
In recent days, the federal government had appealed to the union not to proceed with industrial action, claiming ongoing negotiations.
However, ASUU insists that the government’s promises remain unfulfilled, prompting the decision to mobilize the nationwide strike.
