In a major political development ahead of the 2025 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention, Northern stakeholders of the party have thrown their weight behind former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), as their consensus choice for the position of National Chairman.
The endorsement reportedly came after a high-level consultation among PDP leaders from the northern region held in Abuja, where participants resolved to present a united stance in preparation for the upcoming convention slated for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to party sources, the Northern PDP caucus reached a unanimous agreement to adopt Turaki, a seasoned lawyer and long-time party loyalist, as the preferred aspirant.
The chairmanship slot, it was confirmed, had earlier been zoned to the North-West geopolitical zone as part of the party’s efforts to ensure equitable power distribution and maintain internal unity.
