The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, has announced the suspension of the party’s proposed national convention earlier scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Mohammed, who addressed journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, said the decision followed the recent judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Omotosho, in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025.

He disclosed that the party had obtained the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment and that, after a legal review by the PDP National Legal Adviser, Ajibade K.A. (SAN), the leadership resolved to appeal the decision at the Court of Appeal.

“In adherence to due process and respect for the rule of law, the PDP has decided to suspend and cancel the planned Ibadan National Convention pending the outcome of the appeal,” Mohammed stated.

He explained that proceeding with the event while legal proceedings were ongoing would amount to a violation of the court’s directive.

Mohammed further noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which was a party to the case, had been duly notified of the decision in line with the court’s ruling.

He also reacted to reports of an ex parte order issued by an Oyo State High Court, he clarified that such an order could not override the subsisting judgment of a Federal High Court.

He assured members and supporters of the party that the leadership would continue to act within the bounds of the law and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
