Adeleke Accuses Oyetola, Oyebamiji of Plot to Disrupt Osun Poll

Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has accused former governor, Gboyega Oyetola, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, of attempting to disrupt the August 15 governorship election over what he described as fear of defeat.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor alleged that elements within the Osun APC were making desperate efforts to undermine the electoral process, having realised their chances at the polls were slim.
“Out of fear of defeat, Mr Oyetola and his imposed candidate are desperate to disrupt the August 15 election. Having seen clearly that Osun people have rejected them, they are now resorting to anti democratic means in a last ditch effort to secure power,” the statement read.
The statement further claimed that opinion polls allegedly commissioned by the APC between the last quarter of 2025 and March 2026 placed the party’s popularity below 30 per cent, while the governor’s approval rating ranged between 68 and 72 per cent.
“This clearly shows that Governor Adeleke enjoys overwhelming support from the people. The opposition can already see the outcome ahead of August 15,” it added.
Rasheed also linked the alleged anxiety within the opposition to recent remarks credited to Dr Akin Ogunbiyi on the stance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the election.
“That reality unsettled the Oyetola/Oyebamiji faction of the state APC. Once it became public that there would be no external manipulation of the electoral process, the opposition’s desperation deepened,” the statement said.
The governor’s aide further alleged that previous attempts by Oyetola and his allies to regain political control in the state had failed, including efforts to create crises at the local government level and to frustrate the administration.
“They are afraid of the people and the power of the ballot. That is why they are working tirelessly to undermine the democratic process and deny citizens their constitutional rights to vote and be voted for,” the statement added.
Governor Adeleke was also quoted as expressing confidence in his re-election, insisting that he would defeat Oyebamiji at the polls on August 15.
