Police Arrest Man Over Assault on Female Officers in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a man seen in a viral video assaulting female police officers while on traffic duty in Osogbo.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the suspect was tracked and apprehended after fleeing the state.According to the statement, the incident showed the suspect attacking the officers with a stick and a shovel while they were carrying out lawful duties.
“Following the disturbing incident, the police immediately launched a coordinated, intelligence led operation to apprehend the perpetrator,” the statement said.
The police said the suspect fled to Edo State in a bid to evade arrest but was eventually apprehended.“The suspect, who fled the scene and escaped to Edo State in an attempt to evade arrest, was successfully tracked and apprehended,” the statement added.
The command said the arrest demonstrated its resolve to ensure that acts of violence against law enforcement personnel and members of the public do not go unpunished.“Assault on police officers performing their lawful duties is a serious criminal offence, and the force will not tolerate any form of attack on its personnel,” the statement said.
The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police condemned the incident, describing it as “barbaric and unacceptable,” and assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He urged members of the public to respect law enforcement officers and cooperate with them in the discharge of their duties, while also encouraging citizens to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
