Day after day, Osun 2026 Governorship election draws closer. As Political actors are beginning to declare intentions to run the race, political parties are also in the process of deciding whom its flag bearer will be.
As Osun Spring has reported in its series of report, while Osun PDP may have settled for the Governor of the state, Senator Ademola Adeleke as its flagbearer, the coast isn’t clear within the major opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress.
Being the major opposition party makes it difficult to decide easily who runs on behalf of the party, especially now that it is certain that Former Governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola, who is now minister of Marine and Blue Economy will not be in the race.
Osun Spring had earlier reported that those in the race in no particular order includes, MD/CEO of National Inland Waterways, Bola Oyebamiji; APC National Secretary, Sen. Basiru Ajibola; Sen. Mudashiru Hussein; Sen. Babajide Omoworare; Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, Prince Dotun Babayemi and very recently, Former Deputy Governor of the state and Former National Secretary of APC, Sen Iyiola Omisore.
While Oyebamiji seems to have been the most popular among the party members and leaders, most of whom believes that the former Commissioner for Finance will enjoy support from former Governor Oyetola, the entry of Omisore seems to have now divided
This development has allowed more people into the race which then divided the ranks within the party. This development has also seen to how some members of the party who had ab initio backed Oyebamiji has now gone to align with Omisore.
As media organization, internal rancour within a political party is not what we meddle in except when it requires reporting, however Osun Spring notes that very much disturbing is the recent viral videos emanating from within the APC on how members of the party are beginning to threaten each other either physically or even via social media.
We wish all politicians to know that Osun State belong to the people and not a political party and as such its peace and tranquility is a collective responsibility.
Osun Spring therefore urges all politicians, political actor, parties and members to put Osun first and in all dealing so as not to take the state out of its rightful place as the most peaceful state in Nigeria.
We condemn strongly any form of violence or comments and statements that disrupt or destabilize the peace Osun State enjoys.
Osun Spring also wish to commend all security agencies and operatives in the state for maintaining peace and order, while admonishing them not to relent especially as Osun gravitate towards electioneering period.
