President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former lawmaker Ayo Hulayat Omidiran as the new Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).
Her appointment, announced on August 11, 2025, follows the abrupt reversal of Dr. Muheeba Dankaka’s reappointment, which was initially confirmed but swiftly rescinded by the President.
Omidiran, an accomplished sports administrator and seasoned politician from Osun State, previously represented Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
She served for over a decade on FIFA’s Women’s Committee and chaired the Nigeria Football Federation’s Women’s Football Committee.
Beyond her political and administrative contributions, Omidiran is widely recognised for her role in advancing women’s football in Nigeria.
She is the founder of Omidiran Babes Football Club, a leading women’s team that has nurtured talents for both national and international competitions.
Her appointment is expected to bring a blend of political acumen, administrative competence, and a strong record of advocacy for equity and inclusion to the FCC’s leadership.
