The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has expressed sadness over the news of the passing of the Awujale of Ijebuland, HIM Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, mourning his loss as touching and monumental.

Governor Adeleke in a statement by his Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed described Oba Adetona as a foremost traditional ruler who used his revered stool to foster remarkable elevation of the Yoruba identity, saying his demise has robbed the Yoruba race of a frontline promoter of culture and passionate advocate for development.

The Governor honoured the life of impacts that defined the late Awujale’s 65 years reign, noting that his voice of reason and truth to power has shaped generations and contributed to the modest progress we see around.

He commiserated with his Ogun state counterpart, Governor Dapo Abiodun, the people and the traditional institution of Ijebuland, children and immediate family of the deceased monarch and everyone that is touched by the passing of the renowned Awujale.

“I received the news of the passage of Awujale of Ijebuland, HIM Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, with sadness. Kabiyesi was a voice for positive change, ignoring his personal safety and comfort to advocate for a better society.

“While I join in mourning the loss of this extraordinary monarch, I honour the late Awujale’s life of contributions and monumental impacts, particularly the people of Ijebuland. I have no doubt that he will be remembered for the physical transformation that his sphere of influence was able to bring for Ijebuland and the legacy of impacting lives will linger forever”, Governor Adeleke noted in his condolences message.
