The Directorate of Environmental Health Services of the Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos State has sealed a Chinese restaurant operating in the Ikeja metropolis over serious environmental violations.

The enforcement operation, which took place on 31,July, 2025 unfolded into a moment of intense drama when environmental health officials were initially obstructed by security personnel stationed at the premises of the restaurant. Despite the resistance, the enforcement team led by the Directorate of Environmental Health Services proceeded with the legal mandate and successfully sealed the facility after establishing infractions related to unhygienic practices and failure to meet basic sanitation standards as outlined in the Lagos State Environmental Health Law.

Addressing journalists at the site of the enforcement, the Director of the Directorate, Sanitarian Onisabi Taiwo, condemned the restaurant’s lack of compliance, emphasizing that such violations pose a threat to public health and would not be tolerated under any guise.

“Let it be known that the law will always take its course, regardless of who is involved,” Sanitarian Taiwo stated firmly. “No business or individual is above the environmental health laws of the state. We will not hesitate to shut down any premises that endangers the health and safety of residents within Ikeja.”

He further urged members of the public to support the Directorate’s ongoing efforts to enforce environmental regulations, stressing that collective vigilance and community support are essential for achieving a clean, safe, and sustainable environment.

“We appeal to residents to report unsanitary conditions or illegal operations in their vicinity. Environmental health is a shared responsibility, and with the public’s support, we can maintain a healthier Ikeja for all,” he added.

This development comes amid increasing concerns about food safety, waste management, and hygiene practices in commercial establishments across Lagos. The Ikeja Local Government has reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of environmental compliance and will continue monitoring businesses to ensure full adherence.
