Osun Residents Slam FG, APC Over LG Funds Seizure, Back Adeleke – Survey

A new survey has revealed widespread discontent among Osun State residents against the Federal Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the continued withholding of local government allocations, with many throwing their weight behind Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.

The report, conducted by Geopolitical Survey International (GSI) between August 1 and 5, 2025, sampled 10,000 respondents across nine federal constituencies, including Osogbo, Ile Ife, Ikirun, Iragbiji, Iwo, Ila Orangun, Ikire, Ejigbo, Ede, Ilesa, Odeomu, Ilobu, Esa Oke, Ipetumodu, and Kuta.

According to the findings, 86 per cent of respondents blamed the Federal Government for the seizure of local government funds, describing it as “illegal, unconstitutional, and detrimental to grassroots development.”

Only 11 per cent pointed fingers at the state government, while three per cent were undecided.

The survey, which comprised 60 per cent women and 40 per cent men, highlighted the severe impact of the crisis on women, with 84 per cent of respondents noting that women bore the heaviest burden.

Ten per cent said men were most affected, while six per cent remained neutral.

Politically, the survey signals trouble for the APC in Osun State. An overwhelming 87 per cent of respondents vowed to vote against the APC in future elections, while 85 per cent expressed readiness to back the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if elections were held today. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) garnered a mere two per cent support.

Dr Adeyemo Adeyefa, GSI’s lead consultant, described the results as a testament to “solid home support” for Governor Adeleke’s administration in its face-off with the Federal Government. He noted that the seizure of local government funds had “increased hardship for womenfolk in Osun State and significantly weakened the APC’s acceptance across the state.”

Adeyefa further revealed that support for the PDP had surged from 65 per cent three months ago to 85 per cent in August, suggesting that the APC’s strategy may have backfired. “The fund seizure has inadvertently boosted the public appeal of the PDP and strengthened the state government’s support base,” he said.

The survey, the fifth conducted by GSI since January, underscores growing public frustration with the APC-led Federal Government and a rising wave of support for Governor Adeleke’s leadership. The organisation pledged to refine its polling methodology in future studies to ensure even greater accuracy.

As Osun residents rally behind their governor, the survey paints a challenging picture for the APC ahead of future elections, with many viewing Adeleke’s administration as a beacon of hope for development.
