Osun Farmers Endorse Adeleke for Second Term

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Osun State chapter, has thrown its weight behind Governor Ademola Adeleke’s second-term ambition.

The Association lauded his administration’s efforts in revitalising the agricultural sector and ensuring food security.

The endorsement came at the commissioning of the Farmers’ House and free distribution of agricultural inputs to rice farmers in the state earlier today.

Speaking on behalf of AFAN, Mr. David Ogunsade, represented by Mr. Toki Adekunle, said the farmers’ union had no option but to stand firmly with Governor Adeleke given his achievements since assuming office.

“For the first time that the Governor came here, he saw that the project started during former Governor Oyinlola was still uncompleted. He promised to finish it before returning, and today, he has delivered on that promise,” Ogunsade said.

“Our Governor is a man of his word. He has provided tractors, tools, and fertilizers to farmers. Because of his support to agriculture and development in the state, we endorse him for a second term. The work must continue till 2030,” he added.

The AFAN representative further urged the Governor to construct more rural roads to ease the transportation of farm produce, provide a bus for the association, and facilitate value-added industries to improve farmers’ livelihoods.

Also speaking, the representative of rice farmers, Mr. Ayeni Mathew, applauded the Governor’s initiative of distributing farm inputs, noting that rice farmers in the state currently cultivate over 1,000 hectares of farmland.

“We are supporting the Governor for another term because of his laudable interventions. As rice farmers, we cannot afford to lose the support we are currently enjoying. With Governor Adeleke, rice availability in Osun will improve significantly,” he said.

In his remarks, Governor Adeleke described the commissioning as a reaffirmation of his administration’s commitment to farmers.

“The commissioning of this building for AFAN is not just about a structure, but about our government’s resolve to prioritise farmers and food security. Today, over 300 rice farmers will receive free paddy rice seeds to boost production,” the Governor stated.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, who also addressed the gathering, disclosed that ten rice farmers were selected from each of the 30 local government areas of the state, making a total of 300 beneficiaries.

“These farmers will receive paddy rice seeds, herbicides, and fertilizers. This intervention is designed to guarantee food sufficiency and expand agricultural output in the state,” he explained.

The commissioner urged farmers and residents to ensure continuity of these empowerment programmes by re-electing Governor Adeleke in the 2026 gubernatorial election.
