The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun State Sector Command, has conferred the title of Honorary Special Marshal on Professor John A.O. Okeniyi and Dr. Sam O. Olawoye, FPC, Pharm.
Professor Okeniyi is the Chief Medical Director of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, and Dr. Olawoye, FPC, Pharm is the Superintendent Pharmacist and Managing Director of Sam-Ace Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Limited, Ede.
The investiture ceremony, which held at the Public Enlightenment Hall of the Sector Command in Osogbo, on Thursday, September 4, 2025, was attended by top government functionaries, security chiefs, academics, and members of the business community.
Assistant Corps Marshal Ibrahim Abubakar, Zonal Commanding Officer, FRSC Zone RS11.1, who was represented by Deputy Corps Commander Ngozi Olupotanmi, said the recognition was a reward for sacrifice and service in preventing needless road tragedies.
He charged the honourees to see themselves as ambassadors of road safety in their communities.
“Special Marshals are partners in saving lives. By accepting this honour, you are not just wearing a title, but also accepting the responsibility of being role models and advocates of safe road use,” Abubakar said.
In his welcome address, Osun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Leye Adegboyega, described the investiture as “a milestone in FRSC’s journey of collaboration for safer highways.”
He praised Prof. Okeniyi for his medical interventions in crash response and Dr. Olawoye for his philanthropy, particularly his donation of 100 branded raincoats and 100 reflective jackets worth over ₦2 million to FRSC personnel earlier this year.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Ephraim Olusesan Oyedele, commended the FRSC for celebrating individuals whose work embodies service to humanity.
He noted that road safety is central to Osun’s development drive, promising sustained support for initiatives that reduce traffic accidents.
“This recognition is not only personal but also a reflection of their commitment to saving lives. Professor Okeniyi and Dr. Olawoye exemplify the ideals of sacrifice, compassion, and leadership. Their elevation as Honorary Special Marshals is therefore most deserving,” the Governor stated.
Both honourees pledged continued support for the Corps.
They urged Nigerians to treat safety as a collective responsibility, stressing that discipline, patience, and adherence to traffic rules remain the best antidotes to road crashes.
The event also featured goodwill messages from stakeholders and concluded with the formal induction of the new Honorary Special Marshals.
