A Magistrate Court in Osogbo has sentenced a 28-year-old bricklayer, Aliu Jamiu, to two months imprisonment for stealing clothes belonging to another resident.

According to the prosecution, Jamiu was apprehended after taking four T-shirts and two pairs of shorts that had been hung out to dry at Legacy Hotel in Okinni on Monday night. The items were said to be the property of one Akanji Joshua.

The police prosecutor, Corporal Oluokun Babatunde, informed the court that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

He also presented the stolen items and a written confession from the accused as evidence.

Appearing without legal representation, Jamiu admitted to the crime and pleaded for leniency, explaining that financial hardship pushed him into the act.

Presiding Magistrate Adebola Odeleye, after considering the facts, convicted him and imposed a two-month jail term with an alternative of a ₦20,000 fine.
