Fire Outbreak Destroys Part of Rivers Government Secretariat

0 0

A fire outbreak on Monday engulfed a section of the Rivers State Government Secretariat located in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The inferno, which reportedly broke out in the part of the complex housing the Rivers State Pension Board, sent panic through the area as smoke billowed from the building.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact cause of the fire had not been confirmed.

Eyewitnesses said emergency responders, including personnel from the State and Federal Fire Services, swiftly mobilized to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining offices.

Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Honour Sirawoo, stated that firefighting efforts were ongoing.

He, however, did not disclose whether there were any casualties or the extent of damage caused by the fire.

The incident comes barely weeks after political developments in the state, following the reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly by President Bola Tinubu, who had earlier declared a state of emergency in Rivers State in March 2025.

Authorities are expected to conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and assess the level of destruction within the affected section.
