The President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osun State Chapter, Dr. Nathaniel Kehinde Ogungbangbe, has praised local government workers across the 30 Local Government Areas of the state for their steadfastness, unity, and discipline in complying with the ongoing sit-at-home directive issued by the union.

In a statement released on Monday, Dr. Ogungbangbe applauded the workers for their courage and unwavering commitment to the principles of justice, accountability, and due process in local government administration.

He described their collective action as a reflection of their faith in lawful governance and their trust in the union’s leadership.

“Despite numerous attempts by anti-democratic elements to frustrate our collective resolve, local government workers in Osun have remained resolute. They have refused to be intimidated or lured into illegality,” Ogungbangbe said.

He commended the patience and maturity exhibited by members, noting that their adherence to the directive in the face of provocation and misinformation was proof of their commitment to truth and justice.

The NULGE president also alleged that reports from across the state revealed that some hired political agents, posing as local government staff, were spotted around council secretariats to create a false impression of normalcy.

According to him, the individuals—allegedly loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC)—were mobilized to stage-manage attendance but left the premises after receiving payments from their sponsors.

“These impostors disappeared shortly after being paid, while genuine local government workers maintained their integrity by staying away from such deceptive acts,” he stated.

Dr. Ogungbangbe reaffirmed that the sit-at-home directive remains in effect until the union is satisfied that the safety, autonomy, and legality of local government administration in the state are fully restored.

He urged workers to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and to disregard instructions from unauthorized persons or politically motivated factions.

“NULGE will never compromise the interest of its members or the sanctity of the law. Our struggle is legitimate, and it is aimed at preserving the dignity of the local government system,” he added.

He also appealed to the Osun State Government, security agencies, and other stakeholders to protect the integrity of local government institutions from impostors and political interference.

The union, he assured, is exploring both legal and administrative avenues to safeguard the welfare and professional dignity of all its members.
