The Management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has raised a security alert following reports of suspected Fulani herdsmen sighted in Iree, the host community of the institution.

In a memo released on Tuesday and signed by the Registrar, Mr. Abiodun Oloyede, the polytechnic urged students and staff to stay vigilant and remain indoors from 9:00 p.m. daily as a precautionary measure.

According to the memo, the warning was prompted by intelligence gathered from the surrounding community, indicating a possible security threat that could endanger the safety of residents and students.

“The entire Polytechnic community, especially students, are hereby informed to stay indoors anytime from 9:00 p.m. in Iree and its environs.

“This alertness and security awareness arose from intelligence gathering on the possible presence of some Fulani herdsmen, which may likely pose a security threat and endanger your movement,” the statement reads.

The management further advised students to exercise caution in their movements and avoid late-night activities, urging them to report any suspicious persons or movements to the institution’s security department.

“In case of any security risk or threat in and around your hostels, please feel free to contact the Chief Security Officer on 07033166585 or 07034557451 for prompt assistance,” the memo added.

Meanwhile, residents of Iree and its environs have been urged to remain calm but cautious, as efforts are being made to ensure safety in the area.
