Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed calls by the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for him to intervene in the ongoing police investigation into the Akinlalu killings.
He stated the opposition’s allegations as baseless and a desperate attempt by a “losing party struggling for relevance.”
In a statement issued by his spokesperson on Sunday, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s confidence in the Nigeria Police Force to conduct a thorough investigation into the tragic incident, urging all parties to allow due process to prevail.
“The Akinlalu matter is a question of law and order, and the Inspector General of Police has acted on the matter. The police is conducting an active investigation. Our government will not intervene or interfere,” Adeleke stated.
He cautioned political actors and the public against politicizing a sensitive issue of criminal investigation, noting that governance should not be reduced to political propaganda.
“I caution our people to avoid the temptation to politicize the unfortunate incident. We should allow due process to take its course without let or hindrance,” he said.
Governor Adeleke also took a swipe at the APC, accusing the opposition party of fabricating lies to mislead the public and distract from its internal disarray.
“The opposition’s allegations are unfounded and baseless. The Osun APC, in want of direction and strategy, has grown to be a constant purveyor of fake news,” the statement added.
Adeleke reinforce his administration’s commitment to peace, justice, and good governance, stressing that no amount of political blackmail would derail his government’s focus.
“We will not succumb to blackmail or surrender to a party that is more interested in destabilising the state than delivering on good governance,” he concluded.
