Alex Otti Approves 50M Payout to Families of Deceased Abia Workers
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the release of over N50 million for the payment of accumulated entitlements owed to 265 civil servants who died while in service over the past 16 years.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, made this known while briefing journalists on Monday after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by the governor in Umuahia.
Kanu explained that the funds will be disbursed to the verified next-of-kin of the deceased workers, adding that the gesture underscores the Otti administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and justice for families of late employees.
“The payment will be made to their verified next-of-kin. It is a demonstration of this administration’s compassion and departure from the neglect that characterized past governments,” Kanu said.
