There was mild drama at an Area Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, on Thursday, when a middle-aged woman identified as Mulikat Yusuf suddenly slumped after her husband, Ishaq Abdulganiyu, maintained his decision to end their marriage.

Eyewitnesses said the incident happened while the husband reaffirmed before the court that he no longer wished to continue with the union, despite appeals for reconciliation.

The couple, who have six children together, had appeared before the court to address a long-standing marital dispute. Trouble began when Abdulganiyu told the court that he had made up his mind to divorce his wife, claiming irreconcilable differences.

Mulikat, who reportedly opposed the dissolution, became visibly emotional and pleaded with her husband to reconsider, saying she had nowhere to go after years of marriage.

Moments later, she slumped inside the courtroom, throwing proceedings into confusion. Court officials and sympathisers quickly rushed to her aid and revived her by pouring water on her.

The presiding judge, Mr. Toyin Aluko, urged both parties to exercise restraint and consider peaceful resolution of their differences. He subsequently adjourned the case to December 10 to allow for possible reconciliation or further hearing.
