The Federal Government has released new directives to guide the public on the proper rendition and usage of the Nigerian National Anthem.

In a recent public notice circulated by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and shared online by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, citizens were reminded of common mistakes made when singing or reciting the anthem at official events.

According to the new guidelines, only the first stanza of the National Anthem should be sung at official functions. The statement also clarified that the third stanza is to be rendered as the National Prayer at the beginning of ceremonies.

It further noted that all three stanzas of the anthem are reserved for major national occasions such as Independence Day celebrations, the inauguration of a President, Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Democracy Day (June 12), and the swearing-in of members of the National Assembly.

The directive also emphasized that the National Pledge should be recited at the close of an event, not at the beginning.

The NOA urged all public institutions, schools, and event organizers to adhere strictly to these instructions to preserve the sanctity and correct usage of the anthem.
