The Osun State Command of Nigeria Correctional Services, has revealed that it feeds inmates with not less than 1.2million naira per day.
The Command while appreciating the Federal Government for several reform in the NCoS noted that President Bola Tinubu through Minister of Interior, Hon Bunmi Tunji-Ojo has approving increment in feeding allowance of inmates to 1,125.
The Controller of Corrections, Osun Command, Olalekan Rotimi Oluwadele who made this known at the flag off of enrollment of Inmates in Osun into the State Insurance Scheme by Governor Ademola Adeleke tied the amount spent on feeding to the current number of inmates in Osun state which stand at 1,100.
“The Federal government has done a lot of reforms in the Nigerian Correctional Service since the inception of the present administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,GCFR through the Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The daily feeding allowance for inmates has been increased to N1,125”, he said.
Osun Spring reports by going by the amount per individual, Nigeria Correctional Services in Osun spends over 1.2million to feed inmates daily.
He noted further that Correctional Services has also transitioned from being in the exclusive list to the concurrent list, which implies that both the Federal and State Government is responsible for its operations and running.
“Mr Governor,The Nigerian Correctional Service has indeed transitioned from the exclusive list to the concurrent list, implying that the Federal and State Government now bears responsibility for its operations which are: Custodial service and Non-Custodial service”, he added.
Osun Spring reports that the Executive Secretary, Osun Health Insurance Agency, Dr Akintunde Akindele, has earlier announced that Governor Adeleke had approved enrollment of all inmates in the state into OHIS adding that the Governor also approved surgeries for all inmates with special cases.
