The House of Representatives member representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency, Hon. Akin Alabi, has announced the re-award of the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha Expressway project to CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Nigeria Limited.
Hon. Alabi, who is also House of Representatives Chairman on Works, made this disclosure in a post on his social media pages on Wednesday.
He said he is aware of growing concerns of residents and motorists over the deplorable condition of the expressway, particularly the stretch between Iwo Road and Asejire within his constituency.
According to him, the Federal Government views the road as a single project rather than one divided by constituency boundaries.
He also revealed that the previous contractor, Kopek Construction Company, had been handling the project for several years but could not deliver the expected progress due to several challenges.
“I am pleased to inform all road users and particularly the residents of Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency that the Federal Government has terminated the previous contract. The project has now been re-awarded to CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Nigeria Limited, a reputable multinational firm with an extensive record of major infrastructure projects across Nigeria and Africa,” he stated.
Hon. Alabi added that the new contractor would deploy concrete pavement technology, a modern and highly durable method that ensures longevity, making the road maintenance-free for up to 50 years.
He further explained that while construction work is set to begin from the Osun State end of the expressway as discussions are ongoing to ensure that palliative works commence on the most deteriorated sections within Egbeda/Ona-Ara to provide immediate relief to commuters.
“I am in active discussions with the contractor to carry out palliative works on the most dangerous portions of the road. This, I promise, will commence as soon as possible,” he assured.
Hon. Alabi expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for prioritizing the project and ensuring renewed commitment to its timely completion.
He pledged to continue providing regular updates to his constituents as work progresses on the vital infrastructure project.
