The Osun State Government has officially approved the participation of Osun Babes Football Club in the forthcoming 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL).

This development was confirmed in Osogbo on Friday through a statement issued by Mr. Kehinde Johnson, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Football Matters.

According to Johnson, the approval aligns with the state government’s renewed drive to promote sports excellence and expand opportunities for women in competitive football.

He explained that the gesture underscores Governor Adeleke’s commitment to youth empowerment through sports and the continuous development of the state’s female football sector.

“The inclusion of Osun Babes in the next NWPL season is a clear indication of this administration’s vision to nurture young talents and provide them with a platform to excel,” Johnson said.

He commended both Governor Adeleke and Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi for their consistent investment in sports and support for local athletes.

Johnson further acknowledged the role of the Commissioner for Sports in maintaining the vibrancy of the state’s sporting programmes, expressing optimism that Osun Babes would make a strong impact in the upcoming season.
