Ondo Govt Approves 101km Road Projects, New Hostels, Anti-Corruption Commission Building

The Ondo State Executive Council (EXCO), under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the construction and rehabilitation of 101.036 kilometres of roads across the state.

The landmark decision, taken at the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday in Akure, reinforces the administration’s commitment to bridging infrastructure gaps and improving the living standards of residents.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, said the approved projects comprise 66.421 kilometres of new roads and 34.615 kilometres of rehabilitation and reconstruction works, cutting across strategic communities and economic corridors.

“These projects are designed to ease vehicular movement, boost commerce, and open up communities for development,” Olawoye stated.

He added that the projects would be executed under strict supervision to ensure quality delivery and adherence to timelines.

Among the major roads approved are:

The dual carriageway of College Road–Okoga Junction–Irewole Roundabout in Igbokoda (8.5 km);

Reconstruction of Omotosho–Igbotako–Iju-Odo Road (21.2 km);

Construction and rehabilitation of Akure–Ijare Road with spur to Ikota Township (8.8 km);

Reconstruction of Akure–Imafon Road and asphalt overlay from Investment Junction–Shoprite Roundabout–Federal Secretariat, Alagbaka (15.720 km); and

Construction of Afunbiowo Estate and Alpha 3D Estate roads (6.201 km).

The Council also reviewed existing projects, including the construction of a flyover and junction improvement at Onyeagbulem–Shagari/Irese Road, and the dual carriageway from A Division to Ijoka with several link roads across Akure metropolis.

Beyond road infrastructure, the state government approved the construction of a 216-bed hostel at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko, aimed at improving accommodation for corps members serving in Ondo State.

In a further push to strengthen governance and institutional capacity, the Council approved the construction of a two-storey headquarters building for the Ondo State Public Complaints, Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption Commission, and major renovations of key government buildings including the Hospital Management Board (HMB), Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), and ministries of Water Resources, Women Affairs, Energy and Mineral Resources, Lands and Housing.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, announced the appointment of three new traditional rulers following due process and community consultations.

They include Prince Emmanuel Adetutu Ifasole as the Akinuwa of Ipindo (Ondo West LGA), Prince Bamikole Adeyefa as the Elemure of Emure-Ile (Owo LGA), and Prince Akintoye Felix Adeoye as the Oloke of Okeigbo (Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo LGA).

He added that a Warrant Chiefs Committee has been constituted for the Olojoda Chieftaincy Stool, comprising six nominees from the ruling houses of the community.

Speaking on the overall outcome of the EXCO meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, said the approvals reflect the Aiyedatiwa administration’s drive to deliver people-centered governance through tangible and sustainable projects.
