The Bauchi State House of Assembly has approved a bill establishing 29 additional Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the state.
This brings the total number of councils closer to the constitutional framework for full recognition.
The bill was passed during the Assembly’s plenary session on Tuesday, October 27, 2025, under the leadership of Speaker Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman.
Following its passage, the Acting Deputy Clerk of the House, Musa Yerima, formally transmitted the law to the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Review, Senator Barau Jibrin, for further legislative action at the federal level.
In the transmission note, Yerima explained that the creation of the new LGAs is in line with Section 8(5) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which requires National Assembly approval before new local government areas can take full effect.
He certified that the Bauchi Assembly followed all legislative procedures, saying the bill had been duly compared and confirmed as a true copy of the version passed by the lawmakers.
According to the new law — Schedule II (2025 No. 45) — the proposed LGAs include: Balma, Bauchi East, Bauchi West, Beshongo, Bula, Burra, Chinade, Dagauda/Jalam, and Disina.
Others are Dogon Jeji/Jurara, Dass-West, Gadau, Galambi, Ganjuwa East, Girawa, Gololo, Gwana, Isawa, Jama’a, and Lame, while the rest are Lere, Madara, Sade, Sakuwa, Saye, Udubo, Yankari, and Zungur.
Proposed administrative headquarters for the councils include Nasaru, Miri, Beni, Bununu, Dagauda, Dogon Jeji, Gadau, Faggo, Gololo, Futuk, Isawa, Nabordo, Akuyam, Karkara, Lame, Madara, Sade, Udubo, Yelwan Duguri, and Liman Katagum, among others.
