Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has explained that her decision to invite Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other lawmakers to the commissioning of her constituency projects was guided strictly by parliamentary procedure.
The senator, who recently returned to the upper chamber following her suspension, stated that the invitations were extended in line with legislative tradition and transmitted through the appropriate channel, by informing the presiding officer of the Senate.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Akpoti-Uduaghan said: “Today, as is the standard practice for such announcements, I wrote to the Senate through the presiding officer, asking that the invitation be formally read during plenary.”
She noted that the gesture was aimed at promoting inclusiveness and respect for institutional order, stressing that her actions were motivated by service, not politics.
“I am a progressive-minded legislator. Regardless of any ongoing court matters, I remain focused on my duties in the Senate and committed to following due process at all times,” she added.
The lawmaker further explained that the forthcoming project inaugurations, which coincide with her second anniversary in office, were designed to showcase her efforts in improving infrastructure and welfare in her constituency.
According to her, the events will highlight various completed and ongoing constituency projects — a testament, she said, to “the trust and mandate given to me by the people of Kogi Central.”
