The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has suspended several of its officers following allegations that they extorted ₦10 million from Nigerian hip-hop artist, Oladipupo Oladimeji, widely known as Oladips.
According to a statement released in Abuja on Saturday by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the commission has begun a thorough investigation into the matter to establish the truth behind the musician’s claims.
Oladips had recently alleged that EFCC operatives unlawfully detained him for five days and compelled him to part with ₦10 million before his release, despite the absence of evidence linking him to any fraudulent activity.
Oyewale noted that the EFCC leadership considers the allegations grave and has taken immediate steps to ensure transparency and accountability.
“The officers mentioned in the incident have been withdrawn from operational duties and invited to the EFCC headquarters for questioning as investigations progress,” Oyewale stated.
He emphasized that the actions of the few individuals under scrutiny do not reflect the values of the anti-graft agency, stressing that the EFCC remains committed to upholding its founding principles of integrity and discipline.
“The commission wishes to reassure Nigerians that any staff member found guilty of professional misconduct will face appropriate disciplinary measures. Conversely, if the claims are discovered to be false, those behind them will also face the consequences of their actions,” he added.
Oyewale further appealed to members of the public to allow the investigation to run its course, reaffirming the EFCC’s dedication to pursuing its anti-corruption mandate without fear or favour.
The commission restated that accountability and fairness remain central to its operations as it continues the fight against economic and financial crimes across the country.
