Tinubu Not Visiting White House on Tuesday — Presidency Clarifies

0 0

The Presidency has debunked reports suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will visit the White House in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday to meet with United States Vice President J.D. Vance.

Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, issued a statement on Monday describing the claim as false and misleading.

Ajayi clarified that no such visit was scheduled, emphasizing that if President Tinubu were to visit the White House, it would be to meet the U.S. President, not the Vice President.

“There is a Sahara Reporters story that President Tinubu is going to the U.S. on Tuesday to see Vice President J.D. Vance. That story is not true.”

“Fake news like this has led to unnecessary speculation and uninformed commentary. If the President is visiting the White House, it won’t be to see a Vice President,” he said.

The clarification follows recent reports that former U.S. President Donald Trump had warned of potential military action against Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians—a claim the Nigerian government has repeatedly dismissed as baseless.

According to the Presidency, the viral publication about the supposed White House visit is an attempt to stir diplomatic tension and misinform the public about the President’s engagements abroad.
