Tragedy struck in Doguwar Dorawa, a quiet farming settlement near Guga in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, as armed bandits invaded the community, killing two brothers and abducting several residents.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the village around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, operating for over an hour without any resistance.
The attackers reportedly killed Alhaji Bishir and Alhaji Surajo, two respected elders known for their leadership and moral guidance in the area.
Residents said the gunmen, who arrived on motorcycles, parked in nearby bushes and trekked into the community to avoid detection.
Once inside, they unleashed terror—shooting sporadically, looting homes, and whisking away an unspecified number of villagers.
A community source alleged that the attackers were loyal to Idi Abasu Aiki and Kwashen Garwa, notorious bandit leaders said to be operating within Bakori and neighbouring areas.
“While Doguwar Dorawa was still in mourning, another community, Layin ‘Yannehu, was attacked almost simultaneously,” the source said. “The bandits rustled a large number of livestock and escaped into the forest.”
Reports also indicate that nearby villages — Ganjar, Alhazawa, and Gidan Nagari — have witnessed similar attacks in recent weeks, with more than 40 people abducted and several families displaced.
The renewed violence has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the peace accord reached between the state government and some armed groups operating in the region.
As of press time, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest attacks. Residents, however, have called on Governor Dikko Umar Radda and the security operatives to intensify efforts in protecting vulnerable rural communities from the unrelenting wave of banditry.
