The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has concluded an extensive inspection of accommodation and catering facilities in Madinah as part of its early preparations for the 2026 Hajj exercise.
The three-day assessment, which took place between November 3 and 5, was led by Professor Abubakar A. Yagawal, Commissioner in charge of Planning, Research, Statistics, Information, and Library Services (PRSILS).
According to a statement issued by Ahmad Muazu, Technical Assistant (Media) to the NAHCON Chairman/CEO, the delegation included representatives from the Office of the Vice President, NAHCON Board members, the State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards Forum, and senior management staff of the Commission.
The exercise, Muazu explained, was aimed at ensuring that service providers meet the Commission’s standards and comply with Saudi Arabian regulations in readiness for next year’s pilgrimage.
During the visit, the team inspected over 20 hotels and seven catering facilities within the markaziyya area of Madinah, reviewing operational documents, assessing hygiene levels, and verifying the readiness of facilities to accommodate Nigerian pilgrims.
Muazu noted that preliminary findings from the inspection revealed a “high level of compliance” with safety, sanitation, and service quality requirements.
Before the team’s departure, NAHCON Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, inaugurated the committee in Makkah, charging members to uphold integrity and professionalism throughout the assignment.
“Integrity, impartiality, and transparency must guide every aspect of this inspection,” Professor Usman said. “The welfare, safety, and comfort of Nigerian pilgrims remain our top priority.”
The NAHCON boss reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to accountability and improved regulatory oversight to ensure that pilgrims receive value for the services paid for.
The inspection report, according to the statement, will be submitted to NAHCON management for review and policy action ahead of the 2026 Hajj operations.
