Tinubu Reappoints Marwa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the appointment of Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for another five-year term.

The extension, which takes Marwa’s tenure up to 2031, was confirmed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Marwa was first appointed in January 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Tinubu described the renewal as a vote of confidence in Marwa’s performance, noting that the administration remains committed to sustaining momentum in combating drug trafficking and curbing substance abuse nationwide.

Marwa, a retired senior military officer from Adamawa State, is widely regarded as one of the country’s most experienced security administrators.

He holds postgraduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and Harvard University, and previously served in various strategic military roles, including Brigade Major of the 23 Armoured Brigade and ADC to the Chief of Army Staff.

The renewed mandate is expected to further consolidate reforms at the NDLEA and strengthen Nigeria’s anti-narcotics strategy over the next half-decade.
