Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has distanced himself from the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
He said the move is unhealthy for the party’s stability.
In a personal statement on Saturday and posted on his social media accounts, Fintiri said he would not be associated with any action that could deepen the crisis within the opposition party, stressing that the expulsion did not reflect the collective interest of its stakeholders.
“I wish to categorically state that I dissociate myself from the position of expelling the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, from the PDP.
“I believe this decision is not in the best interest of the party, and I will not be party to anything that could further plunge the PDP into unending crisis,” he said.
Fintiri emphasised that his stance is driven by a desire to protect the PDP from further fragmentation.
He stressed that reconciliation, not punitive measures, remains the only path to rebuilding the party ahead of future elections.
“I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP. I will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration. Peace and reconciliation are the only ways forward for our great party.”
He urged all PDP leaders and stakeholders to prioritise healing internal divisions and working toward unity and cohesion, pledging his own commitment to efforts that promote stability and progress.
“My position is guided by the desire for peace and reconciliation, and I will continue to work towards achieving this goal,” he added.
The statement comes hours after the party leadership at its national convention in Ibadan announced the expulsion of Wike and several other prominent members over alleged anti-party activities. Further reactions are expected as the development unfolds.
