Osun Stakeholders Urge Supreme Court to Deliver Judgment on Withheld LG Allocation Crisis

Stakeholders across Osun State have appealed to the Supreme Court of Nigeria to deliver judgment on the long-standing matter concerning the withheld local government allocation.

The call followed a resolution passed at The Osun Congress, a stakeholders’ meeting convened by Dee Osun Monitors on Monday, 18th November 2025.

In a statement jointly signed by leading members of Dee Osun Monitors, which included Prince Jide Akinyooye, ACA (Coordinator), Mr. Faluade Rasheed (General Secretary), and Mr. Olatoye Taofeek (Publicity Secretary) and made available to newsmen in Osogbo, Osun State capital, the gathering brought together representatives from various political parties, traditional rulers, artisans, civil society groups, civil servants, and religious leaders drawn from all three senatorial districts of the state.

The group expressed concern over the prolonged delay in the Supreme Court’s decision, warning that the vacuum created by the absence of judicial clarity has fuelled economic stagnation, administrative paralysis, and governance confusion at the grassroots level.

They noted that essential services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure have deteriorated due to the administrative uncertainty.

The friction among rival political interests, they added, has also led to clashes and rising insecurity in parts of the state.

The group further lamented that the withholding of funds has crippled local government activities and worsened the economic hardship faced by residents, noting that development projects across many communities have stalled due to the lack of clear leadership and resources.

They stressed that the situation has eroded public trust and created a governance vacuum that cannot continue.

The stakeholders urged the apex court to promptly deliver judgment in the case between the Attorney General of Osun State and the Attorney General of the Federation, insisting that the matter has lingered for far too long in public perception.

They emphasized that the outcome of the case bears significant consequences for democracy, the rule of law, and leadership accountability not only in Osun State but across the country.

The group also raised alarm over widely circulating rumours alleging political interference in the judicial process, describing the development as a serious concern that demands a transparent and timely response from the judiciary.

“Justice delayed is justice denied. The people of Osun State deserve clarity, stability, and good governance. We therefore urge the Supreme Court to prioritize this matter in the best interest of our democracy,” the statement read in part.
