Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Thursday cut short his vacation following rising security concerns in neighbouring states, returning to meet with heads of security agencies in the state.
Speaking in Ikogosi Ekiti shortly after the closed-door briefing, Oyebanji said security chiefs had assured him of the safety and protection of residents.
He added that his administration would continue to strengthen surveillance and intelligence networks to prevent criminal infiltration.
“We are elected to serve the people. Though I am on leave, with what is happening around our borders and neighbouring states, I had to cut the leave short and meet with our security chiefs,” the governor said.
According to him, Ekiti remains safe, peaceful and stable, but the government is implementing additional measures to tighten border surveillance, enhance intelligence gathering, and ensure that criminal elements “find no space to operate within the state.”
He added, “No matter how well-intentioned our security agencies are, the quality of intelligence they receive is extremely important. If you see something, say something.”
Oyebanji praised the unity and professionalism of security operatives and commended President Bola Tinubu for ongoing efforts to secure the country.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brig.-Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (retd.), applauded the governor’s decision to interrupt his vacation, describing it as evidence of his commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
Ogundana noted that proactive measures had earned Ekiti a reputation as one of the safest states in the country, adding that security agencies were working tirelessly to maintain that status.
