President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded a second batch of ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, bringing the total number of candidates submitted within days to 35.

In two separate letters addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the President requested the swift confirmation of 15 career diplomats and 17 non-career nominees.

The new lists include four women among the career candidates and six women among the non-career category.

The non-career nominees feature several prominent figures: Barrister Ogbonnaya Kalu from Abia State; former presidential aide Reno Omokri from Delta; immediate past INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu; former First Lady of Ekiti State, Erelu Angela Adebayo; and former Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

The nominees are expected to be deployed to nations with significant diplomatic and economic ties to Nigeria—among them China, India, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, the UAE, Qatar, South Africa, and Kenya—as well as to multilateral posts at the United Nations, UNESCO, and the African Union.

Their specific postings will be revealed after Senate confirmation.

Last week, the President had submitted an initial trio of nominees: Ambassador Ayodele Oke (Oyo), Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu (Jigawa), and retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are (Ogun), who are being considered for missions in the United Kingdom, the United States, or France.

President Tinubu added that additional diplomatic nominations will be transmitted to the Senate in the coming days.
