Osun 2026: APC Disqualifies Omisore, 6 Others Ahead Party Primaries
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly disqualified its former National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and six other aspirants from taking part in the forthcoming governorship primary election.

The disqualification was said to have followed the report of the party’s Screening Committee, led by Chief Obinna Uzoh, Esq., which wrapped up its exercise on December 4, 2025, at Amor Hotel in Katampe, Abuja, citing non-compliance with compulsory nomination conditions.
It was rumored that the committee noted that the disqualified aspirants Senator Iyiola Omisore, Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Senator Babajide Omoworare —failed to submit proof of endorsement by at least five fully registered and financially active party members from each local government area in Osun State, as stipulated by the APC constitution and its nomination guidelines.
Out of all the aspirants screened, only two were said to have been cleared to participate in the primary — Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
The committee noted that its action was triggered by a petition submitted by the Osun APC Renewal Group, which accused some aspirants of irregularities in their nomination process. Rather than restricting its review to only those named, the panel subjected all nine aspirants to the same level of assessment, resulting in widespread disqualification.
Although the decision still awaits approval from the National Working Committee (NWC), it has caused major unrest within the Osun APC, as allies of the disqualified aspirants have described the outcome as “politically driven” and vowed to contest it.
Senator Iyiola Omisore, a key political figure in Osun State and a former deputy governor, had been considered a strong contender. His removal from the race, along with notable figures such as former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi and ex-Senator Babajide Omoworare, has significantly reduced the number of serious contestants.
A source within the party who calmed anonymity revealed that the affected aspirants have already convened an emergency meeting, with indications that formal appeals will soon be submitted to the NWC.
The Osun APC governorship primary is expected to take place on the 13th of December, 2025, after which the party’s candidate will face the current Governor, Ademola Adeleke, who defected from the PDP and is seeking a new political platform ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
