One Dead, Many Injured As Gunmen Abduct Ex-Custom Official
Armed gunmen on Sunday evening invaded Ora Igbomina, a border community in Ifedayo Local Government Area of Osun State, abducting a retired customs officer, Prince Emmanuel Owolabi, in an attack that left one person dead and several others injured.
It was gathered that the assailants, who struck around 7pm, forcefully entered Owolabi’s residence and fired shots into the air to scare residents before whisking him away.
Sources further revealed that the gunmen later moved to the Akisa Road axis and adjoining communities, where they allegedly killed the leader of non-indigenes in an area outside Osun State.
After the abduction, the attackers reportedly advanced towards the Oteere/Ila axis, where they attempted to kidnap some travellers. The travellers, who became suspicious, fled for safety, but were shot at by the gunmen, leaving several people injured.
Local security operatives and community vigilantes were said to have made efforts to repel the attack and protect residents, but they were overpowered by the heavily armed assailants.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the abduction of the former customs officer but denied reports that anyone was killed within the community.
