The Federal Polytechnic, Ede has disclosed that 2,059 of its students have benefitted from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme within the past year, as the institution formally matriculated 12,797 fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The Rector made this known during the Polytechnic’s 32nd Matriculation Ceremony, where thousands of newly admitted students were inducted into National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes across Science, Technology, Engineering and Business disciplines.

Commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the student loan initiative, the Rector described NELFUND as a critical intervention designed to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent qualified Nigerians from accessing higher education.

“This program has indeed gone a long way in ensuring that no eligible Nigerian is denied the opportunity to pursue higher education due to lack of fund,” he said.

He encouraged newly admitted students who may require financial support to explore the scheme through the Dean of Students’ Affairs, who serves as the institution’s desk officer for the programme.

Beyond the loan initiative, the Rector used the occasion to formally admit the 12,797 students into the Polytechnic’s academic community.

He urged them to remain focused, disciplined and committed to excellence throughout their studies.

He warned against academic dishonesty and other social vices, stressing that the institution maintains strict enforcement of its rules and regulations.

Students were advised to adhere to the dress code, avoid misconduct and channel grievances through appropriate authorities.

The Rector also highlighted the Polytechnic’s efforts to align with national priorities in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), noting that its National Skills Qualification (NSQ) Training Centre, Career Centre and Entrepreneurship Centre are positioned to equip students with employable and entrepreneurial skills.

He reassured parents and guardians that their wards were in safe hands, while appealing for prompt payment of fees to support the smooth running of the institution.

The ceremony marked the official commencement of academic activities for the new students, signaling the beginning of their academic and professional development at the Polytechnic.
