The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has appealed to political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct peaceful campaigns as activities for the 2026 governorship election in Osun State begin on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The appeal was contained in a press release issued on Tuesday by the Public Affairs Officer of INEC in Osun State, Musa Olurode.
According to the commission, the commencement of campaigns is in line with the timetable and schedule of activities released for the 2026 governorship election in the state.
The statement read, “Political campaigns for the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election will officially commence on Wednesday, 11th March 2026.”

The commission also warned political actors against engaging in actions capable of disrupting public peace during the campaign period.
It stated that “political parties are particularly reminded to adhere to the provisions of the law which prohibit the use of abusive language, hate speech, violence, or any act capable of disrupting public peace during campaigns.”
INEC further advised parties and candidates to focus on issue based campaigns that would enable voters make informed choices at the polls.
The commission appealed to stakeholders, including security agencies, civil society organisations, the media and the general public, to support efforts aimed at ensuring a peaceful campaign environment across the state.
INEC added that its Osun State office, under the leadership of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, remains committed to working with relevant stakeholders to ensure a conducive atmosphere for political activities ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
