Accord Warns Osun Police Against Accepting Vehicles from Sacked APC Chairmen
By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo
The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has warned the police command not to accept vehicle donations from court-sacked local government chairmen elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as unlawful and capable of compromising the force.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Osogbo, the party alleged that the affected APC chairmen had diverted local government funds to procure vehicles for distribution to police formations across the state.
The statement, signed by the state chairman of the party, Pastor Victor Akande, claimed that the planned donations were part of a wider arrangement to draw the police into what it described as an illegal scheme.
“We have it on good authority that, as part of the entire arrangement by the APC chairmen, the police are to be incorporated into the scheme through donations of vehicles and motorcycles to divisional and zonal commands,” Akande said.
He added that the distribution of the vehicles could begin within the next week, warning that any acceptance of such gifts would amount to endorsing the alleged diversion of public funds.
“Accepting car donations from the APC chairmen will amount to open support for the diversion of funds meant for local government workers for bribery purposes.
This will not only compromise the integrity of the police but also implicate the service in ongoing criminal trials related to Osun local government funds,” he said.
The party also alleged that some police personnel had been providing security cover for the sacked chairmen, whose tenure it insisted had expired, warning that such actions could further erode public confidence in the force.
According to the statement, the matter surrounding the local government funds is already before several courts, with some officials of a commercial bank standing trial over the alleged diversion.
Accord, therefore, called on the Inspector General of Police to intervene and direct the Osun State Police Command to reject any such donations.
“The Inspector General of Police should act swiftly to stop this attempt to compromise the police service through illegal donations derived from criminal conduct,” the statement added.
The party maintained that accepting the vehicles would further damage the image of the police and place the institution on the wrong side of the law.
