The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has taken a swipe at the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of desperation and confusion over the controversy surrounding local government allocations.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji, on Monday, the ruling party described the APC and its supporters as “court-sacked errand boys and girls” parading themselves as council chairmen and celebrating what it called a “phantom victory.”
According to the PDP, while the opposition boasted about securing access to local government funds through accounts in a commercial bank, their own legal representatives in court distanced themselves from any such payments.
“These counsels, representing the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Central Bank of Nigeria, boldly disowned the supposed transfer of local government funds into private accounts domiciled in the United Bank for Africa (UBA),” the statement said.
The PDP insisted that the development was a clear sign of what it termed the APC’s “naked desperation to loot and run away with public funds belonging to the people of Osun State.”
Bamiji added that the alleged diversion of billions of naira meant for councils into private accounts was “indefensible, even for the oldest and most cunning of lawyers before any judge.”
The party urged residents to remain vigilant, stressing that the APC had, since losing power in the state, “worked tirelessly to destroy the same state it once ruled, ruined, and is scheming to rule again.”
While sympathising with traditional rulers, council workers, health staff, and grassroots citizens who it said were affected by the controversy, the PDP commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for providing “resilient and humane leadership” despite the distractions.
“We assure the people of Osun State that this PDP government will never abandon them to the hands of conspirators and treasury looters,” the statement read, adding that Adeleke remains committed to delivering infrastructure, health, education, and social welfare projects.
The party also thanked individuals and groups who had expressed solidarity with the governor, vowing to continue defending the state’s resources against what it called “primitive plunder” by the APC.
