Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has publicly declared his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.

In a viral video circulating on social media, Adelabu, who previously contested the state’s governorship seat in 2019 and 2023, said his political journey had been one of resilience and dedication, adding that he has “paid his dues” in Oyo politics.

“Truly, I have been on this journey for a while, with the faith that it’s not the day you join politics that you will get the position you want,” he said.

The minister, who was the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019 before later contesting under the Accord Party in 2023.

He said his ambition for 2027 is driven by experience and collective will rather than personal interest.

“We (I) have paid our dues. I contested alongside the now Governor Seyi Makinde in 2019 and 2023. In this 2027, emi lokan — it’s my turn. Adelabu lokan,” he declared.

He further called for unity among party members, emphasizing that electoral victory would only be possible through teamwork and inclusiveness.

“We will work it out. It’s not by mouth. You and I will work it out. You members of the party will work it out. One side or group can’t do it. It’s a collective effort,” he added.

Chief Adebayo Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and grandson of the late political icon Adegoke Adelabu (Penkelemesi), remains one of the most prominent figures in Oyo’s political landscape.
