A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, has formally resigned his membership of the ruling party.
He declared that the APC no longer represents the ideals that brought him into politics.
In a resignation letter dated Saturday, November 1, 2025, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the party in Isanlu-Isin Ward 1, Isin Local Government Area, Oyedepo stated that his decision was born out of conviction and the desire to pursue a higher political purpose beyond personal comfort.
He wrote: “From today, Friday, the first day of November, 2025, I cease to be a registered member of the All Progressive Congress (APC). Some people are of the opinion that APC is comfortable for me, but it cannot accommodate the ideals that I hold for the people of Kwara State — my reasons for being in politics.”
The fiery politician, who described himself as a man driven by principle rather than convenience, added that his exit from the APC was a deliberate choice to stay true to his vision for the state.
“There is therefore the need for me to leave the presumed comfort zone for the path of the legendary. I wish to risk failure rather than rot in regret. I call on all and sundry to join me to let us go together to make history,” Oyedepo stated.
Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, a well-known political strategist and one of the early voices behind the “Otoge” Movement that reshaped Kwara’s political landscape in 2019, has often been outspoken about governance, integrity, and the direction of party politics in the state.
His resignation is expected to stir discussions within Kwara’s political circles, especially as analysts speculate on his next political move ahead of the 2027 general elections.
