0sun 2026: Oyetola, Oyebamiji, Ogunbiyi, Omoworare, Hussein locks horn over APC ticket

As former Governor Gboyega Oyetola officially stepped down from the 2026 Governorship Election, the hurdle is now left for 6 aspirants to slug it out.

Osun Spring reports that while five aspirants namely Alh Bola Oyebamiji, Senator Mudashiru Hussein, Prince Dotun Babayemi, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, and Senator Babajide Omoworare are hustling for the ticket within the Ilerioluwa camp, it is certain what the hope of Senator Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the party is.

A source within the APC which pleaded anonymity reliably told Osun Spring that former Governor Oyetola had chosen Bola Oyebami, National Inland Waterways MD/CEO as his preferred choice but he is being careful not to be labelled as a dictator.

When asked about the fate of Ajibola Basiru, the source declined comment but noted that it is obvious the odds are not in favour of the one time Osun central Senator.

“I can confirm authoritatively that Alhaji Oyetola deliberately told everybody to go and work so that he will not be perceived as a dictator, we all know that he had chosen Bola Oyebamiji as his preferred choice but if he makes the announcement, it will further divide the party.

“Though some of us in the party would have preferred someone else but then where it falls in our party, we will align.

“For Ajibola Basiru, he knows that the odds are not in his favour, I guess he just wants to try his luck or perhaps test his popularity.

“What we don’t know for now is the type of primary that will be adopted because this also goes a long way in determining who becomes our candidate.

“It is also not certain if our party will officially announce that we are zoning the ticket to a particular senatorial district or not because as of today we have aspirants from the three senatorial districts and these are the things we would need to check as we proceed.

“Since Alhaji Oyetola is no longer in the race, it is now Oyebamiji, Omoworare, Hussein, Babayemi and Ogunbiyi that will show us their capacity, especially in terms of mobilization.”

Osun Spring reports that there was a bit of exchange of words between the camp of Bola Oyebamiji and Ajibola Basiru in the time past when the duo made it open they’ll be vying for Governorship.
