Gov Adeleke Hails Wazeerul Mumineen of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Sheikh Abdullateef Adekilekun At 80

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke greets the Wazeerul Mumineen of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Sheikh Abdullateef Adekilekun, on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

In a congratulatory message issued by his Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke described the Islamic scholar as “one of the rare gifts of Allah to mankind.”

He added that his remarkable contributions to religion, scholarship, and community development.

The Governor commended Sheikh Adekilekun’s selfless service to the Muslim ummah across the Southwest, and stressed that his influence spans beyond Osun to Ekiti, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, as well as Edo and Delta States.

“As a revered leader of Muslims in Yorubaland and beyond, Alhaji Lateef Adekilekun’s dedication to Islamic scholarship and community development is truly commendable,” Adeleke said.

He highlighted the octogenarian’s pivotal role in advancing Islamic education through the Adabiya Islamic School in Ilorin and his service on the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies.

“Beyond his historical and oratory gifts, Sheikh Abdullateef has published numerous books and lectured for over 30 years. His contribution to the translation of the Qur’an into the Yoruba language remains a monumental feat that deepens understanding of Islamic teachings among Yoruba-speaking Muslims,” the Governor added.

Born in Ede and a graduate of Cairo University in Egypt (1972), Sheikh Adekilekun has held notable leadership roles, including Vice Chairman and Chairman Caretaker Committee of the old Ede Local Government in 1996.

He currently serves as the Grand-Mufti of Edeland and head of the Adekilekun Dynasty.

Governor Adeleke prayed for his continued health, wisdom, and divine guidance, urging the cleric not to relent in his Islamic dawah for the progress of Islam in Nigeria and Yorubaland.

“May this milestone birthday usher in more blessings, joy, and fulfillment for the revered scholar,” the statement concluded.
