Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, has urged communities in the state to embrace peace and unity for the progress of their people.

Gotan made the appeal yesterday during his on-the-spot assessment visit to Ilobu, Ifon-Orolu, and Erin-Osun, which are enmeshed in recurring clashes.

The crisis has historically been between Ilobu (Irepodun LGA), Ifon (Orolu LGA) and Erin-Osun (also in Irepodun LGA) often drawn into the clashes due to boundary disputes and shared borders.

The recurring clashes have claimed lives, left many injured, and destroyed property worth billions of naira over the years.

Governor Ademola Adeleke had earlier imposed a curfew on the troubled axis to restore normalcy.

Addressing traditional rulers and stakeholders, the CP stressed that development could not thrive in an atmosphere of hostility.

He also assured residents that more security operatives would be deployed to strengthen peace efforts and protect lives and property.

The Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Akinyooye, praised the police boss for his timely visit and pledged the community’s readiness to cooperate in peace-building initiatives.

Similarly, the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Asiru Olaniyan, appealed to the police chief to curb indiscriminate arrests stemming from frivolous petitions, which he said had contributed to past tensions.
