The stage is set for a grand celebration today, Friday, September 19, 2025, as Ijesa indigenes from home and abroad converge on the Muson Centre, Lagos, for a two-in-one event in honour of the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, who clocks 77.
The event, organised by The Ijesa Society, will feature the public presentation of a new book, The History of Ijesa Towns and Communities: The People, Land and Heritage, and the official launch of Osomaalo House, a N1 billion iconic building project to be sited in Lagos.
In a statement issued yesterday, Isaac Haastrup, Media Aide to the monarch, announced the line-up of programmes, describing the occasion as a celebration of history, culture, and leadership.
According to him, the book presentation will serve as a landmark reference material for generations of Ijesas and Nigerians interested in the heritage of the people.
The unveiling of Osomaalo House, he added, will mark a new phase in community-driven development projects designed to showcase Ijesa identity and values.
High Chief Lateef Akande Bakare, the Ajirowa of Ijesaland and President of The Ijesa Society, said the initiatives were conceived to preserve the people’s history and to project Ijesaland as a hub of culture and enterprise.
He explained: “The book clears any web of confusion about who we are as a people. It beams powerful light into the trunk of time, telling the Ijesa story — our land, our struggles, our prosperity and our resilience.”
Today’s events will be graced by traditional rulers, eminent personalities from the political and business communities, as well as Ijesa sons and daughters in the diaspora.
