The Orangun of Oke-Ila, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adedokun Omoniyi Abolarin, has renewed his call for the empowerment of women through education and community advocacy.

He added that the fight against harmful practices such as female genital mutilation and violence against women and children must begin at the grassroots.

The monarch made the appeal yesterday while hosting Kolanut and Bitter Kola sellers at his palace in Oke-Ila, Osun State.

The meeting, he explained, was part of his continuing efforts to engage local communities in conversations that would promote sustainable change.

Oba Abolarin urged the women to prioritize the welfare of their families, especially their children’s education.

He cited the story of his grandmother, Fayoyin, whose hard work and dedication to family values became a lasting legacy.

“My grandmother’s life was a testimony to the power of sacrifice, resilience and commitment to family. Her example shows us that through perseverance and prioritizing education, families can rise above limitations,” the monarch said.

He encouraged the traders to emulate such values, noting that their commitment to educating their children would help break the cycle of poverty and lay the foundation for a brighter future.

According to him, women remain the backbone of communities, and by supporting them with knowledge, education and economic empowerment, society stands a better chance of eradicating harmful practices and protecting vulnerable groups.
